Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A senior political figure stated the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
