From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the city.
Note: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group access areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.
