19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Now collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's maiden championship since the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since March of 2023.
The win also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 different events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.
"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.
The competitors traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to force a decider.
Moutet defended 4 early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.
Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
